Eastwood developed directing as a second career, and has, indeed, generally received much greater critical acclaim for his directing than he ever did for his acting. As a director, Eastwood has become known for high-quality dramas imbued with a pessimistic tone, such as Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby and Flags of Our Fathers.
