Plot: A small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher.
Admittedly I saw this mainly because I LOVE Alan Tudyk (who is highly underrated and wholly brilliant). But holy SHIT! Ben Foster... robbed of the recognition he clearly deserved for his role as Charlie. I had to look at the poster to remember that Bale was even in this film! HA!!!! My rating is almost entirely for Ben's performance.
One of the best western movies I had ever seen! Strong play by "Russell Crow"!! I like his play as a bad guy!
Bale and Crowe do certainly play beautifully off each other, but it's Ben Foster who steals this film as the loyal but psychopathic Charlie Prince. In another universe, he'd have made a great Joker. But anyway, as good and enjoyable as this film is, it's let down hard by a stupid ending.
3:10 To Yuma is a remake of the 1957 Glenn Ford western in which an honest rancher injured in the civil war takes on the job of escorting a notorious outlaw to the prison train in order to save his family's ranch from the railroad. This film really does retain the spirit of the original as it has a real old-fashioned feel to it. The direction is glossy rather than gritty, and the story of two contrasting personalities learning mutual respect under adverse circumstances is hardly a new one. But Bale and Crowe put in a couple of great performances, bolstering the rather workmanlike themes; Bale's down at heel working man trying to find some self respect and Crowe's educated and charming but ruthless outlaw spark off some really good chemistry, particularly during the great showdown finale. It probably won't win over anybody who does not like traditional westerns, but it's a very well executed and enjoyable tale for those who do.
I don't like westerns (unless you consider 'Brokeback Mountain' a western but I don't- it's a melodrama). I don't like Russell Crow- I think he's full of himself and a bit of a jerk (however I liked him in 'Cinderella Man'... maybe he's on an upward trend- like Heath Ledger before he died). So why did I like this so much? No complaints! Christian Bale gives a good performance as the sweet man looking out for his family, and Russell Crowe gives (as far as I am conserned) an Oscar worthy performance that is twisted and interesting to watch. The entire movie you just sit on the edge of your seat waiting for the predictable but lovely ending. Well depends on how you define lovely- but it was fitting so it works! And it was shot very well too. So while not for everyone, it's still impressive and is worth seeing.
A rancher escorts an outlaw to the city of Contention to take the 3:10 train to Yuma for trial, but on their journey, they grow closer as the outlaw's gang follows to try and rescue their boss. Cool flick.
It was swift, sharp and intense and Russel Crowe was such a lovable bad guy. I realised I was holding my breath quite a few times while watching it. It's not the kind of film I'd usually watch and like, but this is a definite exception!
Not very good. The ending saved it but just couldn't get along with it. Bale gave a good performance but I just found it a bit dull and not very true to itself.
A western story of morals that compells. Even with my misfortune of knowing how it would end (why does this always happen to me?) I thoroughly enjoyed the riveting performances by the cast, the chemistry between Bale and Crowe was thrilling to watch. Great comeback for a genre I usually don't care for. This really might be one of the best westerns I've ever seen.
James Mangold's adaptation of Elmore Leonard's short story, a remake of a 1950's Western by the same name, stars Russell Crowe as a cold, not unfeeling bank robber/murderer in the Old West, and Christian Bale as the rancher who takes up with the posse out to bring him to justice. A gloriously well-made if hard-boiled Western from crime novelist Leonard, with a brilliant supporting performance from Ben Foster as Crowe's demented sidekick.
great remake of the older version and a great modern western
was a bit of a risk to do a western in modern day movie terms as they seem to be dying out of favour but was a well worked movie
Christan Bale and Russel Crowe are the perfect fight! This is a great western movie that i thought i wouldnt enjoy. It had an incredible ending. Anyone can enjoy this! ANYONE!
Loved it. Not only was it exciting, but it had some real depth to it. Both Crowe and Bale did some great acting.
Dan Evans (Christian Bale) dodges bullets for half a mile to take the captured outlaw (Russell Crowe) to get on the 3:10 to Yuma, only to find that the train is running late... haha.
Great performances and an all-around badass western with almost everything one should expect from such a film. Christain Bale is great as always, and Russel Crowe also shines as an incredibly likeable bad guy. One of the most satisfying films of the year.
This is a comeback year for westerns. "3:10 to Yuma" fits nicely with the two other excellent western-esque films "No Country For Old Men" and "The Assassination of Jesse James...". Although not as intellectually stimulating as the other two, this film is fun. And it's clever fun. Crowe and Bale are some of the best actors of today. It's exciting to watch them on screen in this entertaining western.
Not bad but not exceptional either. Bale and Crowe (Bale especially) own the screen in this authentic looking western. If you're a fan of cowboy stories then this one's for you. Pardner.
Rusell Crowe again..but he´s brilliant. Loved the action and once again C Bale prooved why he´s one of my fav actors.
Fairly good except for a few ridicolous secenes. Could have done better with more restraint and concentration on camera work- just like the old classics. overall, very well done in craft and final delivery. good scenery and devolpment of story. quite impressed.
A small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher. This is probably one of the best films of 2007. I mean, it had great action scenes in it all the way throigh the film, great shootouts in it. Very exciting. One of the best western times based film in years. A good remake of the 1957 version of 3:10 to Yuma. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale were amazing in ths film. James Mangold's directing for this film was great. One of my most favourite western based films since The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. One of the best action movies of 2007.
One of the best films of 2007. Director James Mangold ( walk the line ) does a great masterpiece of a remake Delmar Daves' 1957 Western classic. . In this new version, which is bigger, bloodier, way noisier and more violent than the original.Flixster - Share Movies
3: 10 to yuma stars to great actors ,Russell Crowe and also Christian Bale. our story for 3:10 to yuma is about a small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher. 3:10 to Yuma says on the dvd box front cover that it is the best western since Clint Eastwood's Oscar-winning 1992 film
"Unforgiven". i would agree with this and 3:10 to Yuma has some of the best film performance of 2007.
The Western has become a genre that?s sort of touched on by an ambitious director every so often. It?s no longer the ?go-to? type of film that it used to be. That rarity makes each western that does come out somehow much better. Just look at films like The Missing, The Proposition, or less recently, The Quick and the Dead. Next in line is 3:10 To Yuma.
I was amazed at the simplicity of the film. It hits on such basic themes like pride, family, and good vs. evil but it takes these simple ideas and works magic with them. The general idea is that Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) is an outlaw that?s been caught by a ragtag posse including Dan Evans (Christian Bale). They?ve got to get Wade to the town of Contention and on the 3:10 train to Yuma prison before his gang comes to take him back. The group sets out on this journey and problems arise along the way.
The real treat for this film comes in the form of Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. The two interact like they?re two sides of the same coin. They seem to have so much in common, but at the same time they?re so entirely different. Ben Wade is the ruthless outlaw that?s robbed 22 stagecoachs and his gun (aptly named ?The Hand of God?) is something to be feared across the country. Meanwhile, Bale?s Evans is a down-on-his-luck rancher with a family struggling to survive on nothing while he?s up to his neck in debt. Evans sees an opportunity when he encounters Wade and he exploits it while taking this moment to prove to his family and any others that he?s got some backbone.
If I had to pick between the two, I?d say that Crowe has a slight edge in this film. His character just oozes this kind of confident evil at first. You know not to trust him and if you were in the same room as him, you?d be sure to keep an eye on him no matter what. I loved how he was able to just sort of slide his way into conversations and people?s minds, manipulating them like puppets on strings.
3:10 To Yuma is a testament to a great Western. It pulls in all aspects of the genre from stagecoach robbery and steam engines to cowboys and Indians. The only thing I can add is that after watching this I?ve got to check out the original 1957 film that this one is based on. I can?t imagine it being much better than this one though.
I Really enjoyed this a lot. Christian Bale continues to suprise me again and again. When you get down to it the movie is basically Riding horses gun shooting and sitting by fires. However the content and performances are so good that it really never gets dull. Russel Crowe was a very chilling character in my opinion. One moment you think wow this guys a creep to he's actually kind of likeable and then he's stabbing someone in the throat with a fork. I love the complexity in his character. Ben Foster?! where the hell did he come from? I remeber seeing him in terrible tennage comides and thought that's the last I'll see of him and boom! hes in this film and plays a great secondary villian. Really Great stuff from him.
Overall the film was put together so well and really shocked me with how good it really was. The writing and dialouge really put this over for me because with any mediocre script it would've been forgetful.

How could you not love this movie?? Incredible. It had me glued, even when I was tired at 4am & wanted to crash out... lol
Just seen this movie and I really enjoyed the Storyline
(thought there could be a bit more gore though like the Western game 'Gun')BUT OTHERWISE A GREAT FILM!
have any of you seen the original? it is brilliant. but i wanna watch this aswell.
"There Gonna Hang Me In The Morning.." This film has the true essence of a classic western. I haven't seen the original film as this one is the remake, but I can tell you I loved this modern western. The chemistry between Russel and Christian were astounding. I am not a big fan of Crowe but this film he played the villain very well and I think over the years his acting has improved. The whole rest of the cast fit in well to the picture and setting of this film. Ben Foster who had a small role as the angel in "X-Men The Last Stand" did a great job playing the ruthless heart-less bad guy. I def would watch this movie again and again. 4 stars
They're gonna hang me in the morning
Before this night is done
They're gonna hang me in the mornin'
And I'll never see the sun
Haha it's such an awesome movie, the acting was superb by both of them Russell & Christian
Execellent movie! Haven't seen a good western movie in quite a while, but this one was great, I loved it, great cast with the 2 leading charectors Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, great movie!
This is the best western made in a very long time. Crowe and Bale were amazing. A movie you can watch over and over. This movie will become a classic.
This movie was well done! I thought the acting was grade A! Crowe and Bale were unbelievable!
