Words cannot describe how utterly excited I was by this trailer tonight. I love Baz Luhrmann and as much as I respect how long it must take him to put his amazing vision of a film into actual form I do wish he'd release more and this wouldn't be his 4th but his 400th - oh well I guess that is the price you pay for his kind of quality!
Australia is one of those projects that have been in development hell for years. Since 2006 I've been checking for any developments every few weeks. I remember hearing about Russell Crowe taking the lead role, only to find that things didn't work out and the able Hugh Jackman climbed aboard (a few weeks before the official announcement I had envisioned Hugh being a great person for the job). Nicole Kidman is also a fine actress. But the rest of the cast is filled with great Aussie names! David Wenham, Bryan Brown, Jack Thompson, Bruce Spence, etc.
My prime interest was sparked, though, due to the massive budget. Remember all those Aussie films made for less than a million dollars or a bit over? Well, we have an Aussie epic costing about $150 million!!! Baz Luhrmann at the helm seals the deal. This tells me it will be passionately made, it will be powerful and the the visuals will look remarkable.
The trailer is like chocolate chips being added to an already perfect chocolate cake that has already been iced.
Bottom line: am I excited about Ausralia? HECK YES! Will I be first in line at the movies? HECK YES! Do I think this will be a contender at the Oscars? HECK YES!!!
I can't wait!
The trailer is annoying, and it makes Nicole Kidman look like an idiot, but yeah, I'll probably see it anyway.
Australia will conclude with its major set-piece, the Japanese bombings of Darwin, and the subsequent exodus south, known as the ?Adelaide River Stakes?. Many people will understandably be unfamiliar with these historical events. Indeed, it would seem that a lot information about the attacks on Darwin has been censored for decades. Director Baz Luhrmann has himself stated, ?Darwin was attacked 64 times in six months ? The government (disguised) the truth: 2000 whites were killed and non-whites were not counted, so the toll was far greater.?
Luhrmann has made it clear that he hopes to bring to light the events surrounding the bombings of Darwin, although as this is a Baz Luhrmann film, it will not be in a purely factual sense. Instead, he has said, ?Everything in the film will be in service to a great romance ? Facts will be moved around but not in a way that fundamentally disturbs the truth.?
Australia is the story of Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman), an English, aristocratic woman who leaves England to follow her husband to Australia. He is in Australia with the intention of selling his cattle station the size of Belgium. However, Lady Ashley believes he is having an affair and travels out there to confront him. The property is in the north of Australia, and she embarks on an African Queen type journey, accompanied by a rough, hewn cattle drover (Hugh Jackman). Ultimately, Lady Ashley finds herself inheriting the cattle station and, in order to save it, she and the drover must undertake an epic cattle drive to Darwin. In the course of that journey, she falls in love with the drover, and the Australian landscape, and realises that her life is not over, and there's always a new life to be had. The title Australia is intended to sum up the story of her life - her journey, the landscape, and the people she meets - all of which transform her life forever.

A film genious,Baz Luhhrman, also one of my favourite filmmaker ever, again with legendary Satine in Moulin Rouge!,Nicole Kidman.Must be the most beautiful movie of the year.
New Baz Luhrmann movie = one of the leading contenders for most beautifully shot films of the year. Hopefully this'll be the perfect vehicle for Hugh Jackman to get the kudos he more than deserves.

I really want to see it considering I visited one of the towns in Australia that it was filmed in Bowen, Queensland
I've been looking forward to this one for, like, 4 months!=D I WAS expecting it to be some historical thriller because of how it looked, but then i learned that it was by the same director who does romantic musicals, so...I don't know. Gonna see it, but will be really disapointed if they start singing=P Go Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman!=D I'm seeing it for them!=)
Baz Luhrmann is absolutely amazing. I love Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! so hopefully this will be as good as them. Great choice of actors aswell.
Even though it hasn't come out at the cinemas and I haven't seen, I've put it in my - My Favourite Movies. I am an Australian and I am proud of it, I will see this movie at the cinemas. Go Hugh Jackman and David Wenham, you to are the best Australian actors I've seen.
