I'm sorry I'm quite the open minded movie go-er but this was just akwardddddddd. Certainly agree that this movie solidifies Ledger as one of the most unfortunate lost talents of this generation yet this film should not so quickly be dubbed a new classic. Sure it?s a beautiful sweeping piece but I think somewhere everyone got caught up in the fact that it was controversial and that is almost solely its appeal. 2 stars for a good cast, nice cinematography and a good short story adaptation.

Why is it that some people's perception of the shifting social mores of the past few decades is shaped by the increased permissiveness of mainstream Hollywood films since the abandonment of the production code?

    Wow...
    I watched the DVD.
I dunno that it was uncensored, so...
    well...
Apart of those ... scenes, it was a great movie. I like the story, and Anne Hathaway was great.
It's really heartwarming watching at their friendship like that.
I never know 2 men who just met each other can be that passionate. Well it was perfect, secluded cold mountains, one small tent, and they're all alone.

2 men are sent to tend sheep up on a mounstin called Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming in 1963.(i think, might have been '73). They are alone (except for sheep) for all the summer months and they fall in love. You know, that's basically it, but it is amazing. I mean Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal in the same film. It's a beautiful plot and a tragic love story. Anyone who likes a love story should enjoy this film.

Oh my god!!!!... I just have to say it... for me a cowboy is the best male masculine strong image, but in this movie.. come on!!.. I won't see cowboys the same way as before!!.. all my fantasy got destroyed.. I have nothing againts gay people, don't take me wrong. They did an excellent work here, and of course Heath Ledger stoll the movie!

I've watched this film more times than any other films in my life. It's a life-long love story, told so beautifully, delicately, slowly... The scenery in the Canadian mountains is breath-taking and Heath and Jake are both superb in their roles.

This movie has nothing new to offer except from Ledger's in-depth performance. The only reason it got all the hub was because of the gay theme. This is romeo and juliet with two men. A cliched 'love' story.

A little too dragged for my liking and a bit slow at times, didn't like the way the film cuts straight to an unspecified period of time either, but other than that, an emotional drama with brilliant performances from Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Heath Ledger is undeniably a very talented actor, may he R.I.P.

07/29/08 update: I went to see The Dark Knight and then coincidentally ran across this movie later that night on cable. It's amazing to see these two Ledger performances back-to-back, as it were. What a range. I'm bumping this one up to a full five stars and adding it to my Top 100 list. End update.

This is a tragedy for Gyllenhaal and Ledger. But my heart bleeds most for the women in this film who are victims of the doomed love affair: the wives, the daughters, the girlfriends, the mothers. It is devastating to witness the lives of all these women being impacted because these two men cannot publicly acknowledge their love for each other. A very convincing job of acting all the way around. For me, however, the most astonishing performance is turned in by Roberta Maxwell as Gyllenhaal's mother. She so movingly embodies great love and understanding, all of this condensed into such a brief screen appearance.

One if not the best movies of all time. Heath and Jake did the roll soo good that if I didn't know who they were I would think that they are actually gay. It's the BEST!!!!!!

A remarkable love story set in a place and during a time where this type of love was not supposed to happen. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall made those roles believable. GREAT GREAT Movie!!

I loved it. I found myself crying in the end with all my soul, it is so beautiful that you forget that they are two men, you just want them to be together. I really really liked it, the performances are amazing, the photograpphy the music everything it's just, real. A very very good movie in which you love both characters intensively.

I'm not going to do in-depth about how homophobic the majority of people are and how terrible society is for not understanding and the flak this movie gets, blah blah blah. I'm going to simply say, if you don't want to watch it, cool. If you give it a chance, you'll see something great. That's what I did. I gave this movie a shot, albeit it that it was from watching Ledger's performance in the Dark Knight that sealed the deal for me, but that should be perfectly fine, to be lured by the intensity of an actor's performance. With that said, this film is an artistic masterpiece to which I can't begin to describe because I haven't seen it enough to grasp all the little details. But from my viewing, it was a heartfelt story of such an intense love, such hardship, such familiarity that when you see it you can really relate to it. It's so impactful in the sense that the scenes grab you and take you away, plunge you into a story so well developed that you notice nothing but it and the moments in life you've experienced that you can compare.

Secrecy, love, passion, friendship, heartache. Everything. I'll be honest that I've come from one polar end of the world to the next from not seeing this film to actually getting around to it. And I really have to say that it's one of my favorite films to date. It's been so long since I've seen a movie that wasn't so CGI heavy, "based on a true story, but a violent story to keep it interesting to the public" or wannabe artsy films that have big jumbled "smart people" words that try too hard to be something that this film is. Cinematic gold, something timeless, something to own and watch from time to time and let your heart puslate with the emotion that explodes in every word, every stare, and every argument and laugh within this. When Ledger and Ghyllenhaal laugh, you want to laugh with them, when they ache, your heart goes out to them as well. For these characters to deliver to you what they feel, merely by viewing them, this is what a movie camera and roll of film was meant for, good actors and direction, all for something like this film.

This movie stands out to me in a big way. It's unique, it's different, it's entertaining, and it's engaging. It really is impossible to take away nothing when you see this. I highly recommend this to any moviegoer that simply likes a good story and great performances. It's sad that Heath is no longer in this world, as he displayed such genius in his performance as he did with The Dark Knight that it's a shame we won't be able to experience him in future films. But that doesn't mean we can't preserve him in something new, always, with each viewing, as times change, people's views and society's perception. This is a landmark of movies to where Heath Ledger is truly immortal. And I for one am truly thankful for having been able to have the chance of watching a film so classic that is Brokeback Mountain.

many weird comments about this movie. some people just don´t seem to have gotten it.

Like someone commented that she thought it was strange that they both married...wow. Did you even watch the movie?

Or all the people commenting on they dond´t liking the movie because it´s about two gay men...

    I feel sad..

The movie is about love. About how society´s expectations and prejudices keep two human beings from each other. Its a beautiful, haunting story that hasn´t left me since I first watched it two years ago.
The acting is superb and so is Ang Lee´s direction.

i like this movie alot, i do cried alot at the end of coz the death of jack twist, it's so sudden n unbelievable. Now, knowing that heath's gone, remembering this movie for me seems like the story came out into reality. the same loss and denial.
though i've never been a fan of heath ledger n i've never followed his career before, the news of his death has more than enough to put me in tears. he has so much to go through, n i believe he'd receive an oscar some day.
i can't pretend if i could stand to watch this movie again from the beginning til the end...
    farewell, heath...u'll be missed forever

this movie was was pretty good. i truly liked it! the movie had it's good points, but what it lacked was the true depth of their relationship. i feel that they could have given more detail as to why they were drawn to each other, other than companionship. Heath Ledger was great. He really showed true emotion, to how confusing and hard the situation was. And Jake Gyllenhaal did well, playing the naive cowboy who wasn't in tune with reality and the ugliness of the world. Michelle Williams also did great. I could feel the raw emotion she gave as she found out about her husband's secret... Most people think that this is a gay porn movie, but it is not. It is a sweet, and very sad movie about the hardships of the gay community in rural areas. This movie will make you cry, if you have one ounce of emotional in you. It's a very touching movie. I think that everyone should take down their prejudistic homophobic shields down for a minute and give this movie a chance. It's beautiful.
