    ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME?!?!?!?!?!

    Greatest horror film ever!

original and this, both lived up to it's genre as a horror film. the gore scenes the story and whole base of this was amazingly written George romero version was more about racism as this was to just show off special effects and to re-make a classic.

well to go on and brag about this film i'll start off by saying
"when theres no room in hell the dead wanders the earth"

    thats some creepy shit..
this movie contains 3 great actors and actress, Sarah Polley,Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer.

there role was amazing and how they went on about it through-out the film i almost shit myself during the beginning when they enter the mall, it was in the sport shop, as jake weber faces off against a zombie with a crocket? not sure what it was but he stabbed the wooden steak part right up from the throat and through the top of his head. sick scene tbh

you must fucking watch this movie!

As I watched "Dawn of the Dead", I was thinking that this is a horror remake that is actually "Good." And it was. In Dawn of the Dead, survivors of an outbreak of zombie attacks flee to their local mall for a place to hide. What is great about this movie is that some of the survivors have been bitten, but the unbitten survivors have no idea that bites turn into zombies. So this film is filmed with Drama, Horror, Romance, and of course a hell of a Thriller.

The first time i watched it i wasnt to happy about the film, i thought it was poor. I watched it again thought it was alright, the only problem being is it doesnt explain what caused the outbreak and the fact that these 'Zombies' run?!?

I thought this movie would stink, and stink it did, like rotten zombie brains!!! I dunno, I guess the idea of super running zombies is just too cool. Plus, it's much better than the original. The ending sucks, but the heros make so many mistakes that it isn't surprising. Sending the dog off was one. Not using the vehicles more, a big no no. No flamethrowers? How about some zombie maintenance? Well, you F up like that during the zombie apocalypse, and you'll get the same.

Great remake of a classic zombie movie. Although the zombies running fast pisses me off, I still like it. I feel zombies need to move slowly, so it's scarier when they get you

Sure enough, this remake of the George Romero classic doesn't have the depth of social commentary of the original; however, in its own right, it's a decent zombie movie, made with a fair amount of thoughtfulness and with more seriousness than its predecessor. It's less reflective of today's version of mindless horde-driven consumerism and perhaps simply more reflective of today's version of horror movie-making. This is isn't your father's Dawn of the Dead indeed -- no longer conspicuously low-budget, it's slick, polished, and meant to connect with a young mass audience. Well, maybe it's not that polished -- the movie gets sloppy in places, making some of the action hard to follow and muddling some of its logic (for instance, there's a birthing scene during which someone becomes a zombie and I'm not sure why, and I suspect that the entire scene only exists for what the filmmakers must've thought was a cool horror punchline; in the meantime, it seems wasteful of the characters involved). Some good characters anchor the film, and it's their conflicting sets of motives that make it (and any good horror film peopled with a healthy number of potential victims) engaging. Meanwhile, the running zombies are better utilized in 28 Days Later, which this movie seems to borrow a lot from, stylistically.

Not at all as good as the original classic by Romero.

The director did an excellent job of never really giving the audience time to breath in between and the scenes. The actors chosen to play the parts were great.

Still the aspect of survival was much more interesting in 28 Day Later. A strange plague that causes the recently deceased to rise and attack the living take refuge in a mall. Slowly they realize they will die sooner or later if they do not escape.

They attempt to reach a possibly uninhabited island through an army of the undead.

It doesn't make any logic sense though.

San Francisco Chronicle | Mick LaSalle
It's silly, witty and good-natured, not scary so much as icky, and not horrifying or horrible but consistently amusing

Not only a superb remake, but a genuinely terrifying thrill-ride about a group of rag-tag locals banning together in the mall against a horde of RUNNING undead. Going from 0 to 60 in seconds, these new zombies give the survivors no hope for escape as day by day, the number of zombies increase outside the current safety of the mall. Leading a very talented cast is Sarah Polley, Jake Weber and Ving Rhames. I'dve given the film a higher rating, but due to the fact I couldn't get into the zombies being able to run ALL the time, I think a four out of five suits the bill.

Awesome movie. Zombies who run instead of shambling. I was slightly disappointed that they did not decapitate zombies with a machete while riding a moped, but it was still a great movie.

A group of people from various walks of life are trapped in a huge shopping mall as a strange, unknown (and unexplained in the movie) virus turns all outside the mall into the walking dead -- or zombies.

This movie is one of the most graphic, violent movies I have seen in areal long time. They show you just about everything when it comes to the destruction of the zombies. It is not for the weak of heart.

The special effects, and make-up effects are incredible. I have a feeling that when it first came out, it made a good chunk of the audience squirm in their theater seats. They spent a lot of money on the special effects and make-up, and that's a good thing for a movie of this kind.

You can pretty much tell who will make it to the closing credits at the end of the movie because those people have the most development. Some have very little development, and are killed early on, while others make it to about three-quarters of the way through.

Another thing that this movie does well is the action. When the zombies attack, there is no time for the characters they are after or the audience to breathe. A good chunk of the movie takes place in the shopping mall, with the zombies trying to break in to get to the main cast, so there isn't action every five minutes.

The development of the main cast was pretty good. It wasn't perfect, but you understood each character's motives as the movie went on.

One of the things I didn't like was the "Andy" (Bruce Bohne) character. He spent most of the movie on the roof of a building near the shopping mall, and communicated with the main cast through a magic marker board. If you ask me, this character was not needed, as he did nothing for the movie.

As for the soundtrack, it's all modern music with instrumental pieces used to enhance the scare factor, sometimes in a really good way.

If you have a weak stomach, don't see this movie. And do not let young kids see this one. The violence factor is extreme and the imagery is even more graphic.

a great movie. Even though there were hardly any scenes with zombies in it, the acting of the actors more than compensated for the lack of scenes with the undead.

I love this movie. I like the tension and relationships between characters adding a little subtext to the plot. There seems to be more drama between people than with the actual disease itself.

Great movie! Should have made it more like Wisconsinites. If they all were zombies, they wouldn't be at the mall, they would be at Lambeau Field. God, get it right!

A great watch. Far from the days of the black and white zombie flick, Dawn takes us to the modern day living day. The visual effects prove awesome with characters that you love, hate and even love to hate. Putting the cast in familiar settings brings you into the movie where you might find yourself imagining the possibilities of what you might do if you were there with them. While this is a good movie, I miss the days when movies were scary just because they were. Today's horror puts us there and frightens us with action and noise. The suspense of fear, while it does shup up in Dawn, is lost to the effects and the sudden "boo." Don't be pushed away, watch it.

Snyder's Dawn of the Dead follows the fortunes of a nurse, Ana (Sarah Polley), and a policeman, Kenneth (Ving Rhames). They soon encounter another policeman, André (Mekhi Phifer), his pregnant wife Luda (Inna Korobkina) and a white-collar hero named Michael (Jake Weber). This band grows in number when the survivors decide to seek sanctuary in a shopping mall and meet some initially hostile security guards. Before long, more survivors enter the mall, making this film much busier than it's precursor. The larger number of characters gives the film a sociable atmosphere absent from the original, in which the intense alienation of the four survivors was more palpable. This larger number also provides the opportunity for a number of gruesome dispatchments. Snyder's movie delivers plenty of tense action set-pieces, while upgrading Romero?s lumbering blue-skinned zombies into living dead Olympic runners who'll stop at nothing to get their hands on human flesh. Refusing to skimp on the gross-out, this Dawn delivers a series of memorable scenes that will have viewer retching. While a string of comedic moments provide some welcome light relief amidst all the horror. Dawn of the Dead is exciting and exuberant: moored in Romero's subtext, but anchored by its craft and respect for genre. It's driven by cinema rather than theory, fitting comfortably into the new wave of technically proficient, thematically nihilistic horror films.

Well, I hate to say this, but this one really blows the original away! I mean 26 years really looks a whole lot of different. I almost felt asleep on the 1978 made film wishing I would have read a book instead. This one lives up what movie goers would expect from a horror film nowadays.

Even the critics that are hard to please thought the remake was good. The original at times gets boring but not a good job in the make-up dept much better job with the sequel Day of the dead in 1984 the gore effects were more realistic & better make-up effects with the zombies not saying Dawn of the dead is a bad film not better than the remake.

Although he had strong reservations about some elements, George A. Romero professed to be surprisingly impressed with the film.

I get tired of people saying this is better than the original, due to the special effects and so on. True, it was good, especially in the era of the remake. But it lacked the messages that most people failed to catch in the original(i.e. consumerism, which was the purpose for the mall in the first place, etc.). Plus, the original had a killer music score, composed by the legendary Goblins. All in all though, this was a great movie!!!

I've Seen the Original Over and Over...and Over. Its Just such a great Movie.
And now i can watch the new one ...well not THAT many times but it gave me what i was lookin for, an "All-OUT Action Zombie Movie.
Most remakes Fail, this one didnt.
but one movie cannot Top the Other.
Whoever watches the new one 1st is gonna think the original is too tame.
and whoever saw the original 1st, will think the new one is not character or story driven.
Nonetheless u will all see a Twilight.
