Plot: The adventures of incoming high school and junior high students on the last day of school, in May of 1976.
I honestly don't have time to describe why I love this movie. Mostly, I guess, I feel that it captures a culture and time of my life that I feel a lot of longing and nostalgia for. I never smoked pot when I was a teenager and I was a baby during the time this was set. But I knew these people, I grew up with them. We had similar experiences and that sort of weirdness that surrounds both being in and leaving high school is dead on.
I absolutely love this movie. Its filled with amazing actors and so many hilarious moments. This movie makes you want to go back and party in 1976.
Nostalgic, but never sentimental. Speaks to me perfectly. Finally a good, realistic high school movie that people can actually relate to.
My favorite stoner movie. I was in college at the time period portrayed and it seemed like a documentary.
An old-style teen dramedy. It sure does look old. That's the best thing I can say for it. I guess it's a nostalgic look at the insanity of youth in the 70s. Not funny, just aggravating. The cast is amazing too but there's no story! None! And every character young or old is such a total jerk-off that I would've loved for them all to die in the end. Now that would have been amazing.
despues de American Graffiti, es la mejor pelicula q he visto sobre la adolescencia. una obra maestra...
A funny movie involving sex, drugs, and more drugs. They really don't make movies like this anymore.
I missed some bits of it here and there, so I have yet to see the entire thing at once, but it was better than I expected. And seeing some of those actors back then is fun.
A strange tale of high school life in 1976 as told through stoner slackers. Not as cool as Fast Times was for the 80s, but it has moments of clarity.
the greastest stoner movie ever losts of big name actors great moviemust see must own and remember I get older and they stay the same age lol Matthew McConaughey
This movie is awesome makes you want to live in the 70s and have one of those awesome partys. McConaughey is offical cool in my books after seeing this only one bad thing not enough milla jovivich.
They shot this movie in my hometown when I was in middle school, so I've always had a special love for it.
ok, everyone loves this movie but, I don't get it.... it didn't seem like anything special and I barely liked any of the characters... perhaps I would have liked it better if i had seen it when i was in high school?
This was a good look into the night life of an american teen. I remember nights like this where my friends and I would wander aimlessly looking for something to do and this flick captured that feeling and chaos and adventure.
The casting worked well as we see some big stars inhabiting the roles of these direction-less teens.
The music is as much a character as the folks on screen and the flick boasts an impressive soundtrack.
Best soundtrack ever.
It's the last day of school and the class hierarchy bickers or meshes together in the 'party of your life', or so it seems. There's a silly message found amongst the laughs, but the mischievousness that you would expect from stoner clans entertains... dude.
Nothing really spectacular about this one. Yet I still liked it since I kinda like movies with a stoner sort of storyline.
this movie was pretty interesting and good, though it made me a little mad that there was no way any of us would get away with any of that in high school...
a funny stoner/coming-of-age movie! look carefully, and you'll see a few faces before they were famous!
I love this movie to death! I watched it at least once a day everyday last summer and ive just grown attatched to it. [:
mathew mcConaughey, ben afleck, adam goldberg, parker posey, milla jovovich, are seen in very early roles here, showcasing there talent at a younger age, in richard linkleters love letter to 1970s austin texas, and a look at the last day of high chool, and eventual night full of partying that will go on, we follow the young freshmans atempts to stop from getting hit with a bat, by the older students, a tradion that goes on, there various atempts at escape and eventual capture is boh funny and cruel to watch, and the older guys and girls as they parade around the town just chilling and hanging out, looking for the next party or musing over there future, all charactors weave in and out of each others lives during the night, and is fun keeping up with storys, the time period looks great, and soundtrack is superb, of all the up and comers in film, rory cochrane was great as his stoner charactor, high all the time, and saying some mad things, and very iconic in his long hair and hat, afleck as bully looking for kidsto hit is also superb, playing a arsevhole wery well, and mcconaughey playing a much older wannabe high school drop out football player reliving his youth shows he can pull something off when hes not doing the stuff hes now doing, you could argue this is similer to george lucas,s american graffity, but manages to be quite diferent, with before sunrise this is linkleters best film, and a film perhaps because of setting asent aged since its 1993, release
The Outsiders...70's style! Ok, not so. Another great soundtrack. One of my fave lines, besides Slater's 'history lesson', of course: "Wipe that face off your head, b*tch!"
Even though the movie is set in the 70s, it still depicts the feelings and confusion of getting older perfectly. It really shows that things weren't that different, even 30 years ago.
Dazed and Confused is the story of the last day of school in 1976 and the impact it has on the lives of the students of a small suburban town. Drugs, muscle cars, drugs, arena rock, drugs, feathered hair, and we can't forget the drugs permeate this film from writer/director Richard Linklater.
When looking at the film from the outside it seems to be yet another teenage sex comedy like Porky's a decade before it and American Pie a decade after it. But what Linklater has created amounts to a modern retelling of the 1973 film American Graffiti, instead of it being 1962 it's 1976- a whole different era but the same old problems. This film could have fallen into the forgotten realm of teen sex comedy, but it has more of a heart than is apparent by the stoner images on the box. Dazed and Confused could have taken the low road and made a mint, but went on the less traveled road of telling a good story with characters that are more than just flat bread.
Nice going, man.
'man'....a word unshakeable from one's vocabulary/sentence endings post-watching this movie.
