The latest installment on Romero's long list of zombie movies. It may not be the best, but it has a value that's undeniable. Aside from the fact that the acting is horrible and amateur at best, the way the story is told in a documentary way makes it refreshing and smart, like no other movie of its kind I've ever seen before. I'm a huge fan of zombie movies, and just like any other Romero movie the zombies are impecable, gritty, disgusting and slimy, like they should be. The movie is a lot less creepy than its predecesors because it deals more with the relationships between the characters in the precarious situation that they are going through, rather than the development of the zombies perse. The characters were well constructed but they should've been a little bit more developed as individuals for the purpose of the movie to be a little stronger, still, I understand why they weren't, I mean, it is a horror movie after all. Something bothered me of it though... it sometimes tried to be funny and all it did was lose the spark and momentum it had gain up to that point. They should've layed off the jokes and focus more on the gore.

MCT:November 26, 2008I love George A. Romero and zombie movies, but WOW, this was a disappointment!
Diary of the Dead carries the same similar plot: the dead have risen and continue to eat the living, otherwise they die of thirst. Yeah, we all knew that.... the twist here is that the entire movie is made on a small video cam recorder.
Diary chronicles the Armageddon experience through the eyes of a group of film students, namely one little prick: Jason Creed, the aspiring film maker who will stop at nothing to make this documentary and spread the "truth" about what is happening. This in lies the problem with this film: disbelief. I know right, disbelief in a zombie movie??? I know that sounds strange, but hear me out. This guy continues to film during all instances, including while his closest friends are being attacked by zombies. One time he just watched as his female friend fended off a zombie by herself as she begged for his help, but he thought continuing to film was more important than saving her life. He also would choose some of his friend's deaths as an opportunity to get a close up. His actions were completely unnatural and unrealistic. There was also occurrences where he refused safe, secure places because he wanted to be out in the world filming this damn "truth." It was completely absurd! And even more absurd, his friends followed!! In real life, we would say "Hey man, you're an idiot. See ya!" Hmmmm... safe room or film zombies?
I had no empathy whatsoever for the characters. One couple in particular were being shown as infatuated, head-over-heels in love... but when one of them is killed, the other doesn't even cry. The event doesn't even move him/her!! Terrible acting... awful scenarios with huge plot holes. All of Romero's movies have made sense, but this one is just a complete disaster.
The only positive thing I can find is the cool, drunk, arrow-shooting professor. That guy was a bad ass. I wish he would've put an arrow through Creed's head.
It should also be noted that Romero used the slow-moving zombies opposed to the super-fast ones in Dawn of the Dead. This created a laggish pace for the movie with very little thrills.
If you love Romero, then you will inevitably see this crap. Don't get your expectations too high. I wish I would have never paid money for the DVD :(

MCT:November 26, 2008To my regret, Romero seemed to have lost it. Good try, but the acting and pacing is so bad that becomes embarrassing to think this man made several masterpieces with the same issue.

MCT:November 25, 2008I don't get all the hate Romero get's for his new film's. Land of the dead is almost as good as dawn. I forone think all of those people that are hating in George are mostly newbies. They got into the fold when that shitty remake of dawn came out. This film is great. It modernizes his soga and you have to love the mute guy. Anyway the end is almost exactly the same as night of the living dead but I think it was supose to be. This is a great Romero film. It's entertaining and political, what more could you ask for.

If you don't like social commentary - don't watch this movie.
If you think a movie should be about whatever is on the title - don't watch this movie.
If you don't like hand held camera - don't watch this movie.
If you're looking for a horror movie to watch - don't watch this movie.
If all you want from a movie is exploding heads - go watch bloody House of The Dead, for goddess sake.
This movie is about politics and social commentary and today's world. Not about gore and definitely not about killing zombies.
Or you would hang around wasting bullets if it was you?
Watch this movie if you like suspense with drama in it. And disregard the comments on the acting, the acting is very bad on most blockbusters and people like them anyway.posted 120 days ago -

this movie was actually pretty good if you can get past the "home video" camera work. I feel like they could've done a bit more with the ending tho... like how did she finish editing the movie? and post it? where did she get the internet connection from if the internet was practically down all over the place? Other than that, i liked it!

This film is the worst movie i have ever seen! I am honestly surprised it was released to the box office let alone the fact its made over seas! Diabolical acting and terrible narrative.

i'd seen the trailer..and i think this would be another one of george romero's best zombies film since the dawn of the dead and land of the dead..i think this would make you scream and jump on to ur seat!!lolz....hope to see this movie soon....another best film of george a romero..
