a movie with characters who I can relate to. a cliché but true. i love clementine and joel. when i watched the movie the second time i actually understood the plot.
gondry gondry gondry, what a great sophomore film that raised his recognition to such an enormous height... jim carrey at his best, kate winslet at her best and even the minor characters are at their best... i swear that i at least watch this movie once a week, between my alternate rotations of science of sleep
Jim Carrey? In a serious movie? It's a Wow! Well, It's kinda nice, even good. Simply one of the best romance movie, complicated, but has quality to satisfy the audience. I could say this was Jim Carrey's best movie because we won't see his silliness and we'll realize that he has a good face (no stupid mimics). Charlie Kaufman and Michael Gondry made an awesome story and Michael Gondry succesfully made such a fabulous romance, unusual and mind-blowing.
If we saw the cast-line, we'll thought that this movie was full of well-known star such as Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Rufallo, Elijah Wood, etc. Those cast were good, for Jim Carrey we could saw his serious acting (again I said, without his silliness). He really a star and he showed me that he could act seriously not like what we've seen in his comedy movies. For Kate, having her hair being colored by several colour simply a plus for her beside of her performance. Those two are the main point of the story, I mean the main characters. The rest of it was a back up, for Kristen Dunst, she could played a little bit bitchy character well, and I felt it was fit for her. For Elijah, our "Frodo" successfully played as a jerk or even a loser I might say, and Mark Rufallo's performance simply a good one.
Enough for the cast, now we're gonna move to the rest of it. The story, I mean the plot simply a dazzling one. Fresh, unusual, creative, and very entertaining. Even though it was a little bit complicated, I found that this movie was enjoyable. The prologue, 18 minutes! And the next minutes simply made my head banged. After a while, I understand the story and again, I would say that this movie was enjoyable (said it around 3 times eh?).
Okay, the score was a nice one, the screenplay, should I mention it again? The cinematography was quite simple but a good one. This movie also has a nice effect.
That's enough. To close my review, well, this time I just wanna say that we have to keep our memory, one will regret his/her decision if he/she delete his/her memory (could that possible?). How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd. Yes, its Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
This movie grabbed me in its first seconds and held me in wonder until the end. From the artistic directing and camera work, to the marvelous acting, to the unique script, everything about "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is worth applause.
Talk about going for a character as different as possible from Frodo, and he made the person so appalling! Brilliant film, fantastic acting.
"You can erase someone from your mind. Getting them out of your heart is another story..."Rated: (R)This is the story of a guy, Joel, who discovers that his long-time girlfriend, Clementine, has undergone a psychiatrist's experimental procedure in which all of her memory of Joel is removed, after the couple has tried for years to get their relationship working fluidly. Frustrated by the idea of still being in love with a woman who doesn't remember their time together, Joel agrees to undergo the procedure as well, to erase his memories of Clementine. The film, which takes place mostly within Joel's mind, follows his memories of Clementine backwards in time as each recent memory is replaced, and the procedure then goes on to the previous one, which is likewise seen, and then erased. Once the process starts, however, Joel realizes he doesn't really want to forget Clementine, so he starts smuggling her away into parts of his memory where she doesn't belong which alters other things about his memories as well..
Directed by: Michel Gondry
Genres: Romance, Drama, Comedy
Starring : Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Wilkinson
You wouldn't expect something average or simply OK in this fantastically amazing and tremendously twisted romatic flick. You would expect something with brilliance, like a work of art. The main core of the movie is in the particular character's head and that's where the best part of it lies within. And it's here that the filmmakers lavish their most insightful and far-fetched notions. After dropping the famous goofy face of his, Carrey has never done anything this deeply felt and he is doing perfect. He seems keen on it, it's not always to look foolish to impressed the viewers. Winslet, one of the best actresses anywhere, is electrifying and bruisingly vulnerable. The entire casts are nearly perfect and solid, mostly solid.
Both director Michel Gondry and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman bring out all the odds of the idea and take us into one's jumpy mind, just like in the best sci-fi, it's first and foremost a metaphor of a dilemma. And this not-very-new thing about escaping the truth, should we better off eliminate our heartbreaks instead taking them to your grave?
Eternal Sunshine is one delightful work of art and ultimately tender, an honest portrayal of what they called (genuine) 'intimacy'."How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot.. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd.
-Kirsten Dunst as Mary-
Conceptually, the single best movie ever. There is nothing quite like the idea and questions that drive this movie. And let's not forget Jim Carrey's total departure from the norm as Joel Barrish and Winslet's perfect turn as Clementine.

A TRAGIC WALK INTO HUMAN'S BRAIN IN THE MOST DAZZLING CUT AND TWIST,with the condiments of alluring and groundbreaking CGI.Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind is a brilliant pictures of particular person who took a unique journey into his own brain in a flashback.![]()
The story is genuinely twisted, and strike a hit.Eternal Sunshine is a psychological drama, with a magnificent visual flair, tremendously tender story, and inevitable writing, making it's the most imaginative and the most tender odyssey a man can have with their own mind.![]()
Eternal Sunshine take a loop from Joel's mind,a character that worth a standing ovation for Jim Carrey. While, the other casts are equally breathtaking in their own romance neuroses and dysfunctional relationship of each other.
Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind is successfully bring a complicated maze without any gap,and completely make sense from the very first second.Eternal Sunshine is a bold, engaging, and generally off the rationality. It is a lavish work of art with every bit of joy and boldness,as it's creativity shall last a long time.
A diamond.
I finally watched this-on flixster nonetheless. It was such a fantastic movie. The plot, the premise, and Jim Carrey were really amazing.
this might be something that i learned from the movie. you can wipe off someone's memory about their loved ones out of a person's brain, but not his/her heart.
Very touching and thoughtful, not to mention well acted, directed, and lots of nice attention to detail. Loved it.
Decent romantic drama with Jim Carrey in a more serious role than we're used to, which is rather refreshing.
I really love Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet in this movie. Both their performances are perfect and Jim Carry does the awkward thing so much better than Michael Cera. But the movie wouldn't be as great if it didn't have the equally perfect co-stars like Tom Wilkinson, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo. The story itself goes from very nice and cute to very intense, which is awesome, because everything in this movie is done so damn well!
great movie, really surprised with Jim Carrey's performance, didn't know he could do anything except comedies :D,overall really liked it
Wow. I don't want to erase this movie from my memory. A wonderful and innovative story about love that managed to make a huge impression even on a true cynic like me. Jim Carrey is surprisingly good in this serious role and the performances from Kate Winslet and the rest of the cast is flawles as well. Everyone should see this.
Whoever would've thought that "Frodo Baggins" Elijah Wood, "Rose" Corset Kate Winslet, "Mary-Jane" Kirsten Dunst and "Ace Ventura" Jim Carrey could come together for such a brilliant performance? The comedy-labeled Carrey shows his best performance ever, Kate Winslet more than makes up for the horribly sugarcoated Titanic, Kirsten Dunst still is the american girl of my dreams and Elijah Wood shows after the sensitive Frodo and before the silent killer that he's a sure pick for any director. Best Romance movie to date.
Very good! A little confusing for some but if you can follow the plot than its a great peice of gondrey work
My friend used to tell me: "Nowadays people go to the movies and say: lets go and watch a Charlie Kaufman film". Now I see! You'de better watch every movie which its writer is Charlie Kaufman (no matter who the director & cast are). "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" is really a special interesting movie with Great writing, directing and cast, including Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo & Elijah Wood (wow! what more do I ever want?!).
The movie is full of brand new ideas and scenes that you've never seen in no other film. It opens your mind to a different view.
Dont doubt to watch it.
Michel Gondry proves he cannot fail in making a movie. Kaufman's script is a wonderful one, that explores memories and love. A great film.
I think it's the best movie for Jim Carrey he was amazing in acting and he prove that he is not regular Comedian also the idea of the movie is very creation and new.
excellent writing, unconventional directing, shifting points of perspective towards a hallucinatory feel, herky jerky camera work and a first rate cast combine for an honest depiction of both the fragility of our tenderest heart connections and the brutal savagery of our emotionally charged breakups. carrey, for once, is either directorially restrained or shows self-restraint to deliver the jimmy stewart in this that he always wanted to be...and, he's right, he's really brilliant at it. and kate winslet amply proves that helena bonham carter's not the only one who knows her way around emotionally damaged types. but all of these words are simply a flimsily constructed intellectual mask hiding my absolute love for this work, an intricate anti-valentine valentine for lovers. 5 stars.
Charlie Kauffman's witty and strange trippy script is beautifully shown under the direction of Michael Gondry. So, not only is the plot well-written, but it is visually impressive. The scenes inside Joel's (Jim Carrey) head erasing his memories are just like what dreams are, very random and always changing. Carrey is good in another serious role, but Kate Winslet is remarkable with her cute cooky performance.

I think this the most well written movie I've ever seen. I have never seen Jim Carrey performing like this. Kate Winslet was great too. One extra thing you have to spot in the movie is the music. The music was really great, Jon Brion did a great job.
This is my absolute favorite movie of all time. It's perfectly shot by Michel Gondry.. a director that I'm sure to keep tabs on.
deadly film, just shows how great carey is as an actor and makes your head spin!!!
also check out that new film #23 for more brain twisting serious carey work.both genious films!
This is one of the best movies I've ever seen, Jim Carrey's best work to date. I think some day this movie will be truely reconginzed for its brilliance and Jim Carrey will be recognized for his overlooked acting abilities.
I'm an intelligent person....but any movie that requires that much thought is just too much like hard work!
