an interesting idea and quite well acted, but somehow movies in which some of the characters are helpless for so long and others are so well prepared can't keep me interested.
this one is way better than saw and other such movies, for it has a point to make, but still - got borred watching it.

It was a good movie just because I couldn't believe who was actually the real villain when I realized it. The plot and the way the story is told is really original. It's a low budget movie (scenery is quite sober) but it doesn't matter because it's still a good thriller, and it doesn't even have wild car chases in it!

Great movie. Small cast (only 5 names in the credits), small budget, but great nevertheless. Ellen Page is amazing as always. Well scripted and directed.

Another movie where I can't decide whether I liked it or not. Sure, Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson were fantastic and I even liked Sandra Oh in her two minute role but...I dunno...odd. I'm not gonna go out and buy it but I'd recommend it as a good psychological thriller.

i really don't know how i feel about this movie....i do know that i hate ELLEN PAGE in this probably because i hated her in the movie JUNO so much...god, i just hated JUNO altogether!! Hard Candy is pretty Fked up stuff. Might have been better if Ellen Page wasn't in it and if you knew FOR SURE that the guy was a pedophile...

I'm having difficulty reviewing this film. It certainly provided an interesting perspective and story. The acting was great. It was certainly suspenseful. So, it gets points there.

However, I find that there was way too much dialogue to explain the back story of the relationship between the two characters. And then there was too much dialogue explaining the situation with the missing girl. And, at the end, too much dialogue about Haley's dealings with Aaron. So, in short, too many words.

I got really into it and kind of expected more from it in the end. I guess I'm not understanding Haley's motives quite so much. I guess I don't feel like I really know either of the characters any better after spending an entire full length film with them.

At certain points, I felt patronized as a viewer, like they felt they had to explain every little thing to me, like I didn't understand pedophilia. At other points, I felt in the dark and not understanding why some of the reactions were what they were. They defied basic logic and human instinct.

So, I'm lefted disappointed, having just endured what looked like an excellent film but was really an average one underneath all the fancy camera work.

P.S. Sandra Oh's cameo is pretty useless.

It was probably one of the creepiest movie I've ever seen. Ellen Page does an amazing job at playing innocent and then psycho all at the same time. The ending is a twist and the whole plot basically makes you uneasy. If you scare easy, don't watch it alone in a big empty house like I did. It's good, but very creepy. You're faced with the question of, is she really that crazy to want to do this?

Ellen Page was fantastic. This movie is sick and twisted. The plot is different in a good way. Good movie overall, I just felt that the ending was a little incomplete.

Hard Candy has such an appropriate title, it works in so many different ways.
The plot itself is controversial, a young girl by the name of Hayley chats, and flirts, online with a much older man. After only a few weeks of chatting, the two decide to meet in person at a local coffee shop. Photographer Jeff Kohlver surprises Hayley by his appearence, rather good-looking and accomplished, and Hayley appears much older than just "14". After akward greetings Hayley agrees to follow Jeff to his apartment in hopes of hearing a Goldfrapp concert. Once the two are alone in the apartment, Hayley asks Jeff to photograph her like his models. Jeff agrees, the two have drinks and everything seems to be going well until Jeff feels unusually faint and collapses on the floor. When Jeff comes to, he is tied to a chair, completely confused as Hayley begins to tear through his home. Hayley then confronts Jeff, her mood and personality completely reversed. Hayley accuses Jeff of being a pedophile, and questions him as to where the evidence is. Jeff plays dumb and acts as if he is completely bewildered by what Hayley is saying. Knowing there is more to Jeff than just internet stalking, Hayley brings up the subject of a young girl who disappeared, and is connected to Jeff. Hayley is convinced that the young girl is a victim of the photographer, and plans to find evidence to prove it.
While searching for proof, Jeff screams for help, he begins to panic and offers Hayley money to let him go. The film becomes to intense when the victim changes between both characters, it is a very unusual portrayal of the good and evil.
After much confrontation, Hayley finally comes across of what she is looking for, and now truely believes that Jeff is responsible for a missing girl's death. Jeff is tortured with the idea of Hayley calling the one woman he loved and revealing his secrets, and now he fears for his life.
Hard Candy is such a fantastically directed film, the camera work is superb and really adds to the movie's effectiveness. The acting from the very small cast is top-notch and I never lost interest. The plot was so interesting to follow, there is so much to it yet it's all clouded in mystery. The entire film is open to so many possibilities and explanations that it's a different experience for every viewer. This is a movie that is very underrated, and should not be overlooked.

I thought the film was powerful, and it definitely got into my skin. I loved the characterization of the film, I'm glad that a stage playwright concocted the plot and characters because it could have easily been done the typical way if Hollywood were handling it.

I love that the film is aware of who you'd normally have compassion for between the two characters, and messes it up by throwing in your face all these different realizations and scenario changes.

The acting and directing were also superbly done.

I think if I saw it again, it would be in awhile just because it messed me up a bit, but I know I'll be seeing it at least a few more times before I'm done with it.

Whoa.... I am so jacked up right now,no joke still trying to get my jaw back up off the floor. This movie is so freakishly disturbing, yet I don't know it's like that morbid curiosity that us as humans have Makes you keep watching this movie.I think both Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page had Oscar winning performances here I mean seriously,I don't want to ruin it for anyone who has not seen it but Holy Crap this is any guy's worst nightmare come to life. They were both completely twisted ,ok,I am all weird right now,I need to go running or something. But if you have not yet seen this movie make it the very next one you see!=)

Holy Jeebus this movie is perfect!
I mean, at first you think that he's one of those guys who's going to take her home and make pedophile pictures and whatever but she totally changes their positions around in an unsospecting way
I was like "Woah dude that's bad!"

OMG BRILLIANT!!! This movie was perfectly put together whereas not once during the entire movie could I figure out who was telling the truth or who was lying. Was 'she'
the one in the wrong, stalking and preying upon him for being 'jealous' that she wasn't up on his wall of portraits like her friend was? Or was she ashamed of herself because she wasn't up on his wall of portraits? Who knows. She acts as though he's guilty of something he didn't commit and she's well aware of this but she just wan'ts to make him pay for not taking her pictures etc. But then the ending would totally throw all of this out the window. If he was innocent of what she is proclaiming he has done then why would he agree to what she has said to do? OMG twists and turns every moment of every frame in this movie .. absolutely genius I loved it!
