Alexandre Aja will become one of the greats in the horror genre for sure. After making a perfect re-make of the Hills Have Eyes, i finally decided to see this movie, and let me tell you it is the scariest, freakiest, and most twisted movie i have seen in a very very long time. Holy shit I cannot even begin to explain how freaked out I was, and how intense the entire movie is, and how bad the bad guy is. This movie is the best horror film I have seen in a while, and all horror fans should leap to the video store if you are unfortunate enough to not have seen this movie yet.
I was recommended this by someone who only watched horror films. He said it made his muscles tense and he's really interested in how people react to and experience horror films. I found this to be true. It took me about 15-20 minutes to "come down" as it were. I will not take that away from the film, it is very effective at creating a mood. I didn't find the ending so much of a betrayal as some have because of all the fascinating implications it has in terms of gender, sexuality, repression and the image of the stalking killer (what about the monstrous feminine? the abject? the Final Girl!?!). So, I'm alright with it, but I'm not sure if it truly is the best horror film of the last 10 years - but I have yet to choose one.
A young student with a butch haircut (no points for guessing what that subtly reveals about her character) travels to a school chum's country home, where a French redneck (or something) starts chopping up the family. Despite some moments of suspense, it's not a thriller as the title suggests. but a slick slasher movie intended for viewers with strong stomachs.
NOOO!!!! This one was about to get my sincerest approval up until the ending! This movie lived up to its name and was definitely high in tension...I'm talking edge of your seat can barely watch tension. In fact probably one of the most tense horror movies of the 2000s up through the 1 hour mark. So why doesn't it get my approval? Well it thinks it's smarter than it actually is, and after the first hour things just go downhill in believability right up until that twist ending...all I can say is WTF?! Wow I mean the ending completely ripped this movie to shreds! BOOO!!
great great horror movie. untill the twist ending fifteen minutes before the end of the movie. man was that stupid. kills all love i had for it

I will ammit that I loved this film. I love gore and this one for sure had it. I have reccomened it to everyone. Some don't like the story or the gore. The story can be constanly over analyized, but that is what makes it fun. You never really get it. Even if you dont like this kind of stuff, you should still peek a look at it.
I just saw a trailer for the dubbed-in-English version for this movie and it sounds terrible!! So If anybody hasn't seen it yet, make sure you get hold of a copy of the subtitled version (unless you speak french that is lol).
A pure first rate Horror film. A film that will beat you to a bloody pulp until the credits roll.
