Plot: A dark tale based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos, one of America's first female serial killers. Wuornos had a difficult and cruel childhood plagued by abuse and drug use in Michigan. She became a...( read more read more... ) prostitute by the age of thirteen, the same year she became pregnant. She eventually moved to Florida where she began earning a living as a highway prostitute--servicing the desires of semi-truck drivers. The tale focuses on the nine month period between 1989 and 1990, during which Wuornos had a lesbian relationship with a woman named Selby. And during that very same time, she also began murdering any of her clientele who attempted to rape her. This turned the tables on a rather common phenomena of female highway prostitutes being the victims of serial killers--instead Wuornos, herself, carried out the deeds of a cold-blooded killer.

    I have never seen a performance quite like Theron's in this movie. Her performance (backed by Ricci) makes this a well around good film. However, the story does drag at times. As do the chracters. But Theoron's oscar winning performance makes this a pretty good movie. The subject matter may be a little too hard to swallow though.

    Charlize Theron really pulled out all the stops when playing the role of Aileen Wuornos in this film. Apart from the huge physical transformation Charlize went through to look like Aileen, she studied everything about her - mannerisms, the way she talked, how she acted toward people, this has to be one of the most researched roles and most accurate impersonations ever to have been put into a performance, something (as you can probably tell) impressed me a lot.

    The story isn?t told from the day of the first murder up to trial, but instead gives you a real background on Aileen Wuornos? life, from a young girl, up to and including the time of the killings.

    I guess no-one can really know the whole truth to this story, but it certainly indicates that perhaps had some kind of different upbringing and not encountered many of the problems that she had, these may have been avoided circumstances.

    Anyone who doesn?t know about the real story and is interested should check out the documentaries by Nick Broomfield ? ?Aileen ? Life and Death of a serial killer? and ?Aileen ? The selling of a serial killer?.

    This is the story of Aileen Wuornos (Americas first female serial killer) brought to the screen in a powerful and thought provoking way. Charlize Theron plays the role perfectly and because of this we are able to understand her acts although we don't agree with him. Christina Ricci is also good and during the course of the film your opinions of them do change

    What A Film ! I Was Hooked From The Start tbh. A Really Chilling True Story On How A Prostitute Becomes A Killer. Its The First Film I've Ever Seen Where You Sympathize With A Serial Killer :-/ That Was Mainly Down To Charlize Theron's Amazing Acting. This Is One Of Them Films That Pays With Your Mind And Will Leave You Thinking Afterwards. Definitely A True Insight Into Life On The Streets And The People Of Today. Your Opinions On The Characters Also Change Throughout The Film. WATCH IT !
