What a dissapointment of a film -and one I highly anticipated for a while.
Let's take the advantages first. Great performances by Ryan Phillipe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Timothy Olyphant. It had some plot twists and some unpredictable moments, but generally it was another Hollywood-like project that failed to take a stand against the imperialistic politics of America. The characters are poorly developed and by the end not only you are left without an impression, but you are also left without emotions of sympathy.
It surely had the potential, but nothing was used and in the end you are left with a simple non-interesting film that didn't do a good job in the portayal of the military life.
More Hollywood crap about how awful the USA is. We're jus tthe worst country in the world eh? For trying to hang on to good soldiers? You don't like being in the military, you shouldn't have joined in the first place dumbrock! Move to France. You don't deserve to have a movie made of your life. You deserve a lifetime supply of ice cream. What flavor? BOOT TO THE HEAD!
" Since September 11,2001, 650,000 American Troops have fought in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts."
"81,000 of those American troops have been Stop-lossed."
"30,000 More Troops were sent by the President to fight the war against the Iraq Insurgency in 2007"
"It has not yet been disclosed how many of those Soldiers were Stop-Lossed."
Well here I was all excited because they jam packed a movie with a few of my very fav hunky men.Well SLAP! Reality check this movie was almost overwhelming for me.High tension, highly emotional driven story well acted and sadly true.I guess this one got to me a little bit more because my father has been through 2 wars,It amazes me the man is still completely sane.I always feel very patriotic and very respectful of what ALL of the soldiers are doing in the wars after every war movie. But this is so different, the shit never should have happened.Senseless ,greed,I'll stop before I get myself off on the wrong track.
If any military service soldier happens to stumble across this little review,Please know that I for one Have the utmost respect for you and your choice to go and do what you feel is right for your country,And I Thank you.I will make an extra effort to keep you guys in my mind a little more every day and be thankful for the little things.
I did not know about Stop Loss until this movie. But it's a chilling reminder that every God Dam day, while we are bitching about traffic, slow internet connections, how we have had a stressful day at work,We have men and women stuck in that God forsaken SHITHOLE over there waking up every day praying they will live to see the next sunrise.See This Film!
Good movie with good performances. The scenes in Iraq are very powerful. The ending contradicts the message the movie is supposedly trying to send, but aside from that, I would recommend it.
A very good story about the soldier's lives and families when they get back from Iraq. The acting was amazing and heartfelt. I was not expecting a lot out of this one so I was pleasantly surprised.
It wasn't anything like I was expecting. I was a bit disappointed. Joseph Gordon-Levitt probably did the best job out of the entire cast.
its a shame what these guys go thru when they get back, also a shame what the government does to them.
A captivating movie that has a good plot, some incredible visual effects and some powerful performances from its cast but Ryan Phillippe's character's journey doesn't flow naturally.
It did a great job showing the world how America screws us all. Small facts were off. But it was insanely good. The best war movie I have seen since Saving Private Ryan.
this movie was sad it had some funny sences in it and ALEX FROST was in it htat made it better but anyway it was a awesome movie
A heartbreaking tale of young men going to war and coming back screwed up. This movie does not sugar coat war, or what soldiers go through when they return home. I wanted to rescue every single one of the men who were falling apart. And definitely confirms my feelings on war. It's a heavy movie, but well worth the time and tears.
So I finally saw this, though I really didnt want to...and I thought it sucked. It moved slowly, it bored me and angered me considering the ironic subject, one I have related to in the past. Im just glad that life is way behind me. It was good to see Ryan Phillippe again though. AND YAHOO TO THE STEVEN STRAIT CAMEO. BEST PART OF THE MOVIE!
I thought Ryan Phillipe was quire cute in this movie! The movie was a good watch It won't win any awards but it is a good story.
this movie was horribly disappointing. I LOVE the main actors, but a very poor portrayal of military life.
I really liked this movie. Seems true to what is really happening in iraq right now, and you have to support our men over there!
It was a lot better movie than I expected it to be and it didn't push the subject that being in the war was bad or good, it left the audience decide. I thought it was excellent in deplicting some of the problems that happen to the soldiers over there once they return. It really surprised me that they were actually doing this to our soldiers. Then I talked to a couple that havee been over there and they said it happens all the time (stop-loss). Here they our volunteering to serve our country than the government is forcing them to stay longer. Something just isn't right with this picture.
well its nice to see that is wat the army dose .
its f-ed up ;
seen it from tim etoo tim e
.
the armed forces f-ing ppl. over .
Taking on such a controversial topic as, well, saying 'FUCK YOU' to the armed forces and the government in the form of a film is no small feat. This is why I think Kimberly Pierce handled the material masterfully, and tailored it to the appropriate audience. If this throws the proverbial bucket of water on one brain dead MTV drone, then by jove, it has done its job. Plus, there are some very noteworthy performances here, namely Joseph Gordon-Levitt and (dare I say it) Ryan Phillippe.
An amzing look at the lives of U.S soldies fighting the war on terror. A very different perspective that delves into the ridiculous backwards drafting of troops and the impossible delima that these troops face. The movie continuously shows the long lasting effects the war is having on U.S soldiers in a powerful, emotive and in your face story. This is one movie that shouldnt be missed.
Though I was disappointed by the ending (for personal reasons), "Stop-Loss" is character study, that's definitely worth a look, no matter how you feel about the Iraq war. An overlooked Ryan Phillippe does some of his best work.
Except for the fact that I wanted to choke the fake Texas accent out of Ryan Phillipe, I loved. Levitt and Channing Tatum made the movie.
americans maybe dubya and da gop gang have needs ive read and now ive seen another current movie about it.
The story had potential and it was a good story to tell, but aside from the attractive males in the cast, it was hard for me to sit through this movie. Some good action, but it really dragged on and on.

although this is a long shot, i was wondering if anyone knows the title of the first 'rap/ hip hop' song that was playing at the very begining...i keep tryin to look up the soundtrack for it, but thats not working for me...
if anyone knows by chance, please write it on MY WALL
thanks!
chick just showed the problem of the movie it's propaganda for the uninformed, those who don't know what's going on take the word of more negative propaganda, I have heard soldiers don't like this movie either, or at least a couple I talked to on Yahoo. This is just more of Hollywood trying to bias people on what to think and using their popularity to force political opinons on people.
I really liked this movie but it made me realize that those troops have no reason to be in Iraq and this war just needs to be over.
Dont need to watch it cause I already live it. Been stop lossed for 20 months now lol
More liberal mega-crap, it will bomb like all the other anti-american crap movies that hollywood keeps trying to make about iraq and then fade into forgetful oblivion. O man I just realized this is the same director that made that other propoganda gay rights movie, she must be straight from the Michael Moore school of PROPOGANDA U.
From the director of Boys Dont Cry, we can just expect something quite raw. My only problem is the poster, looks like a straith-to-DVD film, well I know, its not the official, it looks like something fan-made.
