The initial encounters with Ryder are increasingly off-putting for Grace and Jim, and they bravely fight back when he ambushes them. But they are truly blindsided when he implicates them in a horrific slaying and continues to shadow them. The open road becomes a suspenseful, action-packed battleground of blood and metal as, in trying to elude not only Ryder but also New Mexico State Police Lieutenant Esteridge's officers, Grace and Jim must fight for their lives and face their fears head-on.

This is the most underrated film eye have ever layed eyes on! You just have to hate movie critics every now and then. And naturally as a result of the poor reviews the movie didn't do nowhere near as good as it should have. Yes the movie does follow the standard horror movie formula of cast a pretty boy and hottie girl and place them in a distressing situation. But come on who ever heard of smart party going college kids? And now about the killer he seems fairly friendly at first and the Indiana Jones like look of his character adds to that but when he shows his true colors he becomes an evil Indiana Jones look-alike the end result is chilling. The killer is played by Sean Bean,(haa his last name is bean and his first name rymes with bean) who totally deserved an Oscar nomination for his shocking performance, in my opinion he played a very screwed up and scarey character miles more disturbing than Heath Ledger's take for the Joker character in The Dark Knight,(no offense to him though r.i.p. Ledger). John Ryder is given a ride early on by the young couple and soon attempts to kill them as they are driving down a lonely stretch of highway. In a brief struggle he is knocked out of the car and is left for dead on the side of the raod. They couldn't be far from wrong about him being not being dead. This film has some of the most tension packed scenes of any slasher film ever made. The jailhouse scene in particular is stunningly creepy. And one scene in particular involving an entire squad of police cars plus the fleeing couple and the pursueing killer is the most amazing scene you will ever see in any film of this kind. Now mind you people the only reson i'm giving this high score is because of Sean Bean's mysterious portrayal of a twisted psychotic killer. If it wern't for Sean this movie would have likely ended up in my list of worst movies of all time list. The Hitcher is undoubtfully the greatest slasher film ever made, even if you don't agree you have to admit it's better than Freddy Vs. Jason.

Watching this film makes you despise remakes even more. The characters are annoying, and no thrills whatsoever are handed out to the audience.

Nothing substantial in this piece of gory fluff, but some semi-decent set pieces and a slick as hell Sean Bean somewhat compensates for the lack of genuine scares the original had in spades.

Sean Bean does a great job as the bad guy. Zachary Knighton and Sophia Bush make a great team. Watch for these two in the future. They have a great career ahead of them. The directing, however, wasn't as good as I would've hoped. But it was a great thriller movie. A must see for fans of the genre. Oh, and Sophia Bush is freakin' HOT!

I loved this film. Sean Bean and Zachary Knighton were so sexy! It was action packed and made me jump a few times too. Loved the ending where the hitcher met his ending.

''It was pouring rain and he just needed a lift.''

Remake of the classic 1986 Rutger Hauer horror film. While driving on an American desert highway, two college students pick up a hitchhiker. It doesn't take long for them to discover he's a maniac, but their troubles are just beginning.

    Sean Bean: John Ryder

The Hitcher doesn't by any means break any new ground but what it does is to create a suspenseful atmosphere and it's an exciting ride from start to the abrupt end. The best thing about the movie is the fast pace which was fast and consistent.
Director David Meyers did an average job behind the camera. He managed to produce some exciting and disturbing scenes. He never made things overly bloody and he did come up with some decent escalating violent episodes.

The screenplay was average and kind of predictable. The dialog was bland and so were most of the 2D characters. Also, there could have been a little more development to the story. By the end of the film, I was wondering what the point was. There was no real motive, no reason, it was just a crazy, sadistic man. I wished that the story had a little more depth to it so that it wouldn't just be a gruesome horror movie with shallow goals. Also, the film was largely unrealistic so there were a few unintentional laughs but not enough of them to ruin the entire experience.

Indeed, it's in one such scene that The Hitcher 2007 most carelessly lets its mask slip. Bush, presumably a bit tired from all that running about in her undies, lies down on her motel-room bed for a nap (like you do when there's a mass murderer after you). The TV in the corner is on, Hitchcock's The Birds flickering out into the dark. What's this? A neat echo of the harrowing claustrophobia she's feeling? A knowing wink to the Master Of Suspense himself? Or more to do with the fact that Platinum Dunes (The Hitcher's production company) are next working on a remake of, you guessed it, The Birds? Talk about product placement.

The acting by Sean Bean was exceptional giving the best performance of the film but he's also the most talented actor on offer here. He was appropriately creepy as the hitcher and he really put a lot of energy into his role.
Sophia Bush was surprisingly good despite her bland character. She was a lot better here than in Stay Alive.
Zachery Knighton was so bland although he did play a likable character so it wasn't hard to feel sorry for him.
Neal McDonough was good even though he didn't get a lot of screen time.

Overall The Hitcher was a decent thriller with enough scary moments to satisfy the audience but I don't think it's one for repeated viewings or a piece with any depth or vision, purpose or point.

Very average but an easy pastime with a few unexpected turns and enough blood and violence to keep you glued. It's kind of annoying that the only character I really wanted to die was like, the only one to survive, but that's just movies for you. Really far from spectacular and though having not seen it, I presume the original version is much better...

I was really suprised with how good this film was. There wasn't too much gore - we knew about the violance without actually having to see it most of the time (we just saw the after effects, like the family in the car) in fact the first time we really saw any of the killing actually take place was when Jim was killed about ten minuets before the film finished - and seeing as how he was the male lead and it led to Grance's showdow with 'the hitcher' the end it was more pivital we actually saw what happened, and besides his death was pretty funny even if it was a little gross.
The acting was amazing, I only really chose to watch this film because I really respect how talanted Sean Bean and Sophia Bush both are, and they did not let me down. Sean Bean in particular was fantastic, usually I love him in everything even when he isn't nice, but in this I totally forgot who he was and became so focused on how horrible and deranged his character was. I am suprised people didn't like the fact that his character showed no real reason for targeting Grace and Jim the way he did (apart from his obvious attraction to Grace) I personally found that one of the strongest parts of the narrative. He is crazy and he doesn't really need a reason, plus he only tried to frame them for murder because they out witted him when he first tried to attack them in the car.
Sophia Bush put in a strong turn as Grace, taking her character easily from the fun loving girl on a road trip with her boyfriend, to the scared girl locked in a bathroom, to the girl who has nothing left to lose at the end, and with each new stage in Grace's character Sophia made it utterly believable.
Zachary Knighton also put in a great performance as Jim, the guy who accidentally got Grace and himself mixed up in all this trouble in the first place. But out of Jim and Grace's characters I have to say I was glad it was Jim that died - if he had listened to her everytime she told him they just needed to go back to the police, or to pull over the car then it could have turned out much better for everyone.
Overall a good horror, not to focused on violance, but focused enough so that when it comes to the leads you feel you live through the terror with them, and great camera work!

The movie itself sucked BUT Sean Bean was incredible...he should have been nominated for an Oscar for his performance alone...but the movie itself was a total waste of film-making and a disaster when compared to the original.

This movie was yeah suprisingly good. Although i didn't find it that 'scary',it will def make u think twice when u see a hitch hiker. Bean as the "villian" was totally believable!
the 'death scene' was totally sick in a good way! Really worth a look, but if ya got a weak stomach prob give it a miss.i'll give it 4 out 5!

Sick movie, sick script, sick director

Sean Bean is a big actor, i don't know why did he involve in this shit
    work

-the policemen were soooo fuckin' dumb -he killed an entire police
squade with a pistol -he broke his finger and freed himself while the
dumb officer looking at him -the boy & the girl entered the motel & the
clerck doesn't feel anything -and i don't know why 'John Ryder' didn't
    kill them in many times

soooo as i said Sick movie, sick script, sick director
