Plot:
It sounded like just another urban legend--videotape filled with nightmarish images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer's death in exactly seven days. As a newspaper reporter, Rachel Kelle...( read more

Okay, I'm not gunna lie. This movie did scare me at first. but...its alright. It will never compare to the original.
Among the best, and most freakiest, scary horror films ever to hit the screen. Comparable to "Candyman" in this sense.
7 DAYS!!!! hahaha the horse part freaked me out.. it was so sad when the mom saw her daughters dead face :(
I saw like the second half of this on t.v. and I liked it very much so, so dark and creepy... crazy black hair chicks are cool.
Okay for what it was...it didn't try to pull a fast plot twist on you that ended up making no sense. But once again, as all horror movies must have, there was a really annoying little boy. Why are there always annoying little boys?!
I'm not sure if I'd like to see it or not. I'm not so fond of horror movies, but this one seems quite interesting to watch.
no es mala, pero, creo que tiene tintes de otras peliculas, se asocia mucho el telefono con la de scream
i kinda' like the movie but it didn't make me sleep after watching it so... not sure if i should say that i really liked it or should i say, i wish i didnt watch it..
Spooked me at some points after trying to believe the TV was making me stare right into th'..............
gosh me and my auntie 15 and 11 watched this and we kept getting frights aswell as are fone kept ringing
fantastic!!!! wahahahaha.... super galing ng effects... the way sadako crowl out fromthe television and how the people die... ahahahahaha.... i love it!!!
The original 1998 Japanese feature 'Ring', according to the investigation of Oricon, is the scariest film ever to be shown in Japan. Having only seen 'The Ring', Gore Verbinski's 2002 Hollywood remake, I can only assume the original was vastly different, because this is not the scariest film I have ever seen, by a long shot. That's not to say the film doesn't evoke it's fair share of thrills and chills, but it is disappointing that the effect of the initial picture isn't transitioned particularly well.
'The Ring' is based around a rather ludicrous urban legend; you watch a certain videotape, and die seven days later. Of course there is a way to escape this curse, or what would be the point of the film? And, of course, Naomi Watts lead character must survive because 1. it's an old cliche we can't live without and 2. it paves the way for a possible sequel.
Watts plays Rachel Keller, a journalist who stumbles upon the story after he niece and three other kids die of the same possible fate. With the help of her ex-boyfriend Noah and her creepy-child-cliche son, she uncovers a startling story around the girl in the videotape, and must reveal the truth of the ring before her seven days are up. Unfortunately, not quite as thrilling as it sounds.
The main problem with 'The Ring' is the dull, predictable script-writing. Iconic horror images and a bleak atmosphere, soaked with some dark hues and terribly grim mise-en-scene is hampered thanks to the one-dimensional characters spouting dialogue so out of touch with reality. It makes too many scenes seem so ridiculously unbelievable.
On the other hand, Verbinski relies on sharp suspense, not gore, to frighten his audience, something that always pleases me; use of unnecessary gore is just pure laziness. Naomi Watts is fresh and appealing compared to the rest of the wooden cast, and leaving some unanswered questions - an aspect for which the film was severely criticised - allows us time to ponder the exact nature of the subtext. It's pretty shallow, but at least it's there.
Ultimately, 'The Ring' is not a terrible film. It isn't great, or even very good, but will please horror fans and perhaps some of the more skeptical audience. An ambitious effort just about makes up for the almost hilarious finale; the film frequently treads an uneven balance of chilling and, well just plain silly.
Used to be one of my favorites. A farbetter remake of the an Asian film, it's moody and eerie and tells alot of it's story without dialouge.
If you want a good horror film to watch late at night this is great. The story is ok and the actors do alright, i would recommend it
Pretty good, just sick of the concept after the second and all of the copycats that tried to use the same plot.
Not too scary, but a nice attempt and some creepy themes. The horse on the ferry kind of ruined the mood, however.
pretty stupid movie about a kid who basically makes a movie and people who watch it die...pretty stupid huh?
OH OH. This is the first scray mopvie that i watched and to tell uthe honest truth i never forgot it. It really good and i love it to death.
I feel this movie redefined the standard of horror today. Thank you to all involved in the making of it.

Why is it that Gore Verbinski can take ideas that sound stale or like crap on paper (let's remake a Japanese horror film! Let's make a movie based on a theme park ride!) and crank out instant classics with them? What does that guy ingest that gives him that kind of talent???
Uhm, to me it's not a unbearably scary film. but 2 days after watching it, I was always imagining a head with long hair would shoot out from my PC. Anyway, I think the Japanese one is better than the USA's.
I saw scary movie 3 first, so I was completely unable to take this film seriously. I kept wondering what would happen if you put your only T.V. on a high shelf and she crawled out of it? Or if the only T.V. you had was a tiny portable, would she come out a midget? Personally I would just sit, seven days after watching the video, in a small room, facing the only door with the T.V. in front of me and a shotgun pointed at it. :P
u must find me a solution . since I watched this movie and I can't sleep or sit in a room alone. I'm talking seriously , I'm very afraid of this movie:(
