One of the Best Movie Quotes: "The Greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist"
I wanted to like it a whole lot more than I did, I thought the whole movie was boring except for the very end with the twist ending. I didn't like any of the characters in the movie except for Kevin Spacey's character, which in my oppion is why the movie did so good.
Overrated - If I had seen this movie when it first came out I'd have probably given it a much higher rating. However these days the 'twist' is such a part of movie folklore that I already knew what was coming and to be honest outside of Kevin Spacey's performance there isn't really much to elevate The Usual Suspects above being just another prosaic post-Tarantino crime caper.
I am finding myself in this predicament more and more often, it seems every time i aim to review a great film, i am lost for words, and end up with the same cliche'd point.. What can i say aboput this film to do it justice? Its a full on twisting tale of massive proportions. extremely clever, it shows that the most powerful of criminal minds are those who stand in our shadow. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince people he never existed. This film thrives on this principle. There is a saying that comes to mind, 'its always the quiet ones'.
this is one of the most clever movies ever made. Not only does it contain the most complex plot twist in cinema history, but it also boost some of the most likeable group of criminals from any movie. Wonderful performances from Kevin Spacey and Benicio Del Toro.
OUTSTANDING! Elaborate plot, brilliant performance, and an extremely witty script. A real masterpiece.
Superb acting - a movie that has you enthralled to the very last moment, but tops it off with a dazzling twist... my favorite!
The Usual Suspects is the greatest mystery story ever told in any medium. It keeps you guessing until the very end, and once you think you have the solution, it completely changes right before your eyes. That is the key to a phenomenal plot twist. The script is just brilliance from beginning to end and at no point in the entire film do you feel you know the answer to the puzzle. The cast was hired perfectly. There was not one poor casting choice. Each actor fit their character perfectly, especially Kevin Spacey and Benicio Del Toro. I am astounded every time I watch this film because you realize something new each time you watch it. I won?t reveal what I have noticed because it would ruin the mystery of the story. John Ottman deserves a lot of credit in this film. His score is one of the best scores I have ever heard in a film and his editing is able to keep the great mystery alive until the last second. I applaud everyone who worked on this film and you should be incredibly proud of your work.
This is an excellent movie. The film holds a pure intellectual wit that is rare and tempting. The final resolution has the whole film flipped, that the viewer has to see it more than once.
A superb film with a fine cast, a clever script and an engaging storyline. A definite must watch. In all, very unique.
The cast is all very good and so is the script. The problem was I knew the ending before watching the film because of a cinema course I had at school. Nonetheless, I didn't know HOW the character of Kevin Spacey would have planned everything. It's greatly directed and different from the 90's crime/thriller movies.
Verbal has spent the entire duration of the movie explaining his involvement with the master of crime Keyzer Soze to detective Kujan...and after telling about the events of the crime Kujan releases the crippeled Kint to the streets...a few moments later Kujan realizes that everything Verbal Kint said was actually made up from things that were placed around the room and that Keyzer Soze was actually Verbal Kint!!!...so now Verbal is seen walking normal which proves his handicap was all an act, and lights a cigarette and drives off...and detective Kujan is left in the dust.
This is a fun ride that we go on along with some interesting characters. It may take you a minute to figure out what's going on but until the end you'll never be sure you grasp the plot. That's a good thing.
Quite an extraordinary piece of cinematography. The script is wonderful. Even a second and third viewing will reveal new events and things you missed on a previous viewing!
Excellent performance by Kevin Spacey. If you haven't seen this movie and don't know about it, grab it, some popcorn and watch it start to finish. One of the best movies of the 90s.
This is, in my opinion, the greatest movie ever made. The plot is utterly fantastic, starting up it seems like a standard movie, nothing special, nothing explosive to bring you in. That's its trick. Like all truly great movies - it doesn't need the special effects, it has everything it needs. Kevin Spacey puts on his greatest performance to date along with brilliant acting by Gabriel Bryne and a astounding performance by Chazz Palminteri. You are not a true movie addict until you have seen this movie.
Benicio Del Toro's voice in this absolutely cracks me up, amazing cast and story, and definitely one of the best movie endings i have ever seen
The coolest crime caper of 1995, Bryan Singer's gun runner suspense flick is a real winner. No spoilers. Has to be seen to be figured out. Be amazed up until the very last scene, and be satisfied at the outcome.
Comical interesting characters are suspects in a heist. Can you spot the culprit. And who is Kaezer Sosay?
Not your usual cop robber movie, keep your eyes open :)
The movie with one of th best twists ever. Plus the classic coffie mug drop originated here... i think.
perfect.i have watched it more than 30 times and i still can find new points in it that i hadn`t already noticed.
it has an outstanding screenplay, a bunch of perfect actings , a young talented director and a very good edit. in fact it has all sort of things a perfect movie needs.
This kept my interest all the way through which was great because I didn't think I'd like the movie, but I did and the ending - wow, just briilliant.
I love this movie from the cast of great actors, to the Oscar-winning screenplay. Kevin Spacey is magnificent.
Keaton: There's no way they'd line five felons in the same room, no way.
Five criminals are put in a line up together, possibly setup for a particular crime and become a sort of group with goals for payback until getting involved with a vicious urban legend of a crime boss.
The story is told through flashbacks by the survivor of a botched $91 million drug deal, Verbal Kint, played by Kevin Spacey.
Keaton: His name is Verbal. Verbal Kint.
McManus: Verbal?
Keaton: Yeah.
Verbal: Roger, really. People say I talk too much.
Hockney: Yeah, I was just gonna tell you to shut up.
The other members of the lineup include Gabriel Byrne as a corrupt cop supposedly gone legit, Stephen Baldwin as a hard ass criminal who's good at what he does, Benicio Del Toro as Baldwin's partner in crime and very mumble mouthed, and Kevin Pollak as the demolition man who doesn't give a fuck about anyone.
All of these guys have great chemistry together, interacting with real bonds and tension between them.
The film also stars a number of supporting actors including Chazz Palminteri, Dan Hadaya, and Pete Postlethwaite as the lawyer for the mysterious criminal known as Keyser Soze.
Verbal: Keaton always said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him." Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Keyser Soze.
What makes this movie work is how entertaining all the aspects of it are. It is essentially a crime drama, but it has a laid back pace to it, some very humorous moments between the guys, a lot of memorable lines, and plenty of twists along the way.
Written by Christopher McQuarrie, the film really pops with the dialog, which does take up most of the film. Many scenes do have a good amount of building tension with great payoffs.
Bryan Singer directs the movie not to be necessarily tricky, but there are the twists, doesn't shoot the film in a particularly flashy way, but it still has style. The score of this movie fits appropriately, adding to the flavor.
Its a very entertaining film, that has a great plot, with a very rewatchable value that makes it better for me every time I see it, and it is also made better by the chemistry between the suspects.
Cop: What are you saying?
Fenster: I said he'll flip you.
Cop: He'll what?
Fenster: Flip you. Flip ya for real.

OMG!!Can you believe a comic book spoiled the plot for me?!A series called Identity Crisis, which I read a long time back.I never knew it was based on the movie. Now I know.
Anyway, neglecting that,it's still a really interesting movie and a must-watch (if you haven't read the comic yet!)
Keaton always said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him." Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Keyser Soze.
Who is Keyser Soze? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And poof. Just like that, he's gone.
I didn't give it 5 stars only bc it was so good that I wanted more... Certainly one of the best films I've ever seen.
Only watched this film for the 1st time recently, after hearing so many good things about it.
I have to say, I wasn't disappointed at all! This was great, especially Kevin Spacey's performance - brilliant!
this is one of the Best Mystery Thrillers in the world. It contains one of the greatest endings ever seen in any film. Kevin Spacey delivers the greatest performance in his career. Chazz looks ultimately smart and supposingly is an intelligent investigator. But Spacey turns out to be 10 steps ahead. Superb, brilliant and any other great ways to describe this film. watch the movie and enjoy it to know whether this keyser soze is real or not.
