Plot: A pro tennis player has lost his ambition and has fallen in rank to 119. Fortunately for him, he meets a young player on the women's circuit who helps him recapture his focus for Wimbledon.
I think that the story of this movie was terrible like a children?s movie the outsider wins in the end in the beginning nobody loved him in the end hi was the hero and also hi got a girl . Kirsten and Paul Bettany have done a great job.
A surprizinly great movie about tennis. I was surprized at how great Kirsten was and actually knew how to play tennis. It was one that I kept walking by at the video store. Glad I finally picked it up.
Okay most of the romantic comedies is for only rainy days. And you can like them but not love them. This one I love. I don't know why really but it's not quite pathetic as the other romantic comedies. Watch it!
Paul is so beautiful on this film and brilliant as is Kirsten. I love watching the tennis matches more than I love watching normal tennis
My favourite movie all the time... They got the perfect match, perfect story, and perfect ending too....
AT first i thought this movie sounded kinda lame, but then i watched it and realized its actually pretty cool then i realized Pauls actually sexy. I didnt think he was really in a knights tale. i like this movie and never even noticed James.Flixster - Share Movies
This was a good film, unfortunately, I am not much of a tennis fan anymore, so it may reflect on my rating of this movie. This movie was good. It's about an aging tennis player, trying to win Wimbledon, for his last year of tennis play, before retirement. It was a good film and I would recommend it.
Follows the genre to the letter; the friend, grumpy brother, leading duo, overprotective (soon to be) father-in-law, aloof opponent, blustering comic relief... everything's in place, and, with a few nice touches and a strong leading couple, things can't go wrong. It's not groundbreaking, but it's not bad either. Average.
An amazing feel good movie, great love story, typical none the less, was different that i expected but i go into it.
good acting and very funny, a lot of stars where in this movie including sam neil, but was well done!
a great feel good ending, best film to watch when you are feeling down and unlucky in love!
A British romantic comedy centred around tennis. All my least favourite things in one place and yet this film manages to work thanks to the believable chemistry between the two leads - not to mention some great and original character work from Bettany's character especially. It does still slip in places - McAvoy is irritating, and it's hard to get excited about tennis, but it's far better than it has any right to be
Sure it's syrupy and cliched, but it avoids the usual shitty romcom humour and is quite nicely directed.
I was made to sit and watch this with the wife and thought i was gonna dread every minute.....surprisingly i really enjoyed it.
Funny, touching, well acted and the Wimbledon settings are great.
Paul Bettany is fast becoming a favorite actor of mine and Kirsten Dunst has that sexy but girl next door thing going for her.
A good movie to watch with the mrs after all!
Romantic comedy set at the world famous Wimbledon tennis tournament, staring Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany as the tennis players that fall for each other "against the odds".This has a pretty simple plot, the odd funny moment, the odd dramatic moment where you think it's not going to happen for the two lead actors and a happy ending where everything works out fine.A typical British rom-com then.To be fair, the acting's pretty good and the shots where everythings slowed down as we hear Paul Bettany's characters thoughts are good an add a bit of depth to the character and overall feel of the film.Other than that, just your average run of the mill romantic comedy; ok,but nothing special.
A romantic comedy but with very little tennis scenes. Bettany does a great job as the aging player but Dunst does very little to make you believe they'd fall in love.
I love this movie because it just goes to show how Hollywood can make anything interesting, even Tennis! Plus, Paul Bettany is amazing!
this movie was fairly good, but its honestly not surprising why it wasnt a hit. i always like endings where they show what happens five years later....so good ending, ok movie
Peter Colt (Paul Bettany) is a journeyman British professional tennis player to earns a wildcard spot to the Wimbledon tournament. Peter meets & falls in love with Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst) is a young, brilliant, American tennis pro.
Yet another seemingly hopeless romantic movie that I just love. It's so cute and whimsical all while having a tennis tournament in the background. I thought Paul Bettany was just wonderful in this movie and that he and Kirsten Dunst had great chemistry on screen. I've honestly never really been that big of a fan for Dunst, for some reason her acting and just facial expression always kind of threw me off of a story (spiderman), but in this I thoroughly enjoyed her time on screen. As for Paul, I'll say that I really haven't seen too many of his movies except for A Knight's Tale, which I found him hilarious in, and The Da Vinci Code. This movie brought out a different side to him though what with the small conversations with himself in his head that only you can hear and just his overall performance as the has-been tennis playing getting lucky. I know this film may not be of cinema acclaim, but I still always enjoy it when I get a chance to watch it.
I don't find a stroke of appeal in Bettany, and I don't like Dunst in romantic comedy, so this movie kind of sucked.
A very good sport- romantic movie. Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst show good chemistry from the beginnning, that's why you end up falling into the romance of this two tennis players. Both of them are very good actors that make you laugh from the beginning to the end. The special effects in the games are wonderful and they make you feel the real tension of a tournament like Wimbledon.
funny and very entretaning..the chemestru between kristen dunst and paul bettani is incrediblee you fall in love of the cute couple from the first instant they meet. I love the eay the mixed the tennis with their relationship..this movie made me like tennis
I knew I was probably making a mistake late one night when I put the DVD of WIMBLEDON in my DVD player. As a big fan of both BRIDGET JONES' DIARY and NOTTING HILL I suspected the decision would mean few hours of precious sleep before stumbling out of the house on the way to work this morning.
Yep, I sat their engrossed in the unfolding drama, and yes it meant I was still happily glued to the movie as my alarm clock slid past 2 a.m., but this movie not only met my expectations but exceeded them in all its free-spirited warm fuzzies.
The story has been done before - boy meets girl, girls father attempts to keep them apart, boy loses girl and then well - you need to watch the movie for that answer. However this movie is a winner because the backdrop (Wimbledon) provides for some nerve wrenching moments and tension and the other movies of this ilk did not star Paul Bettany (the same actor who proved great comic timing in A KNIGHT'S TALE) and Kirsten Dunst. Dunst has never particularly impressed me before and I never found her terribly attractive, yet she looks stunningly gorgeous in this movie and plays her part of the young tennis protégé to perfection.
Bettany plays the part of a has-been tennis player named Peter Colt who (after being ranked #11 in the world some years before) wins a wildcard spot at Wimbledon which he accepts as a last hurrah before taking on the tennis pro position at a snooty English social club. There he meets up with aspiring young tennis star Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst) who is competing in her first Wimbledon under the watchful eye of her father (played by Sam Neill sporting a horrible American accent).
Following a mix up over rooms and some other comic misadventures the two gradually fall in love (although neither seems ready to admit it) and as Colt's game improves and he advances further into the tournament, Lizzie's game deteriorates.
I'm not sure if I bought Bettany and Dunst as a couple, the two certainly have a chemistry and Bettany is his usual charming self, but something about it didn't quite gel for me. But this is a minor quibble because everything else works perfectly and I don't think I have ever seen tennis portrayed so dramatically on screen. The movie also features a number of tennis greats in front of the camera (including Chris Evert and John McEnroe) to add a further sense pf realism to the proceedings.
