Traitor Carter: Remember who you answer to. Samir: I answer to God. What could come off as a clone of the Bourne movies, is actually a well done thriller, with a lead character whose morals are challenged by both his religion and the cause he must fight for. Don Cheadle stars as Samir, (minor spoiler, revealed in the trailer) a deep undercover operative who has become a member of a terrorist organization. He is a devoted Muslim as well, and faces the challenges of building bombs and gaining trust with these people, while dealing with what he has been forced to become in order to serve the greater good. Guy Pearce enters the scene as an FBI man chasing Samir for the logical reason of not wanting terrorist attacks to occur on American soil. Jeff Daniels shows up as Samir's handler, the only one who knows who he really is. Saïd Taghmaoui (best known from Three Kings) is one of the members of the terrorist organization and friend to Samir after having spent time with him in a Yemen prison. While the story is good enough to handle the material. It is this cast that elevates it. I believe Cheadle to be one of the best actors currently around, and here he doesn't become the action man, he is very believable as a man who has had training but is also deeply religious. He does as much with scenes of him thinking something through as he does with anything else. Pearce is also very good, sporting a southern accent no less, as the FBI agent. As mentioned, the movie is not a Bourne clone, which means there isn't too much action and the story focuses more on the characters. However, the movie is still paced well enough, making good use of its global locations and making the action scenes that it does have work. It is truly the character facing his moral dilemma that makes this a worthwhile film and that is due to how good Cheadle is in the role. Traitor An inteligen movie that takes on cliches and stereotype with no fear. Beautifully directed with some great acting. Don was really outstanding in his role as well as Guy..Can't qulify this movie as an action...It doesn't tell you what to believe or think, as it PROVOKES and lets you THINK...It tends to be more of a political thriller (with only one fight scene). The twist is predictable, however there is a little surprise at the ending. Very effective dark humer. Disaster Movie No this is not a comedy, this is not a movie, hell this isn't even worthy of the dvd to burn it on to. When your too lazy to even watch the movies your ATTEMPTING to spoof, and your material comes from movies that were not even out yet at the time of filming, and the scenes are from the movie's trailers; Then you have this wonderful cinematic monstrosity. What the heck was the director and the writers thinking when they made this movie...Ok...disjointed action scenes, plot with gaping holes, and an ending that made the entire audience laugh...in disbelief. What were they thinking!! Dont go see this movie in the theater..maybe they had such an amazingly bad ending b/c they want to release the good ending on dvd..who knows! Babylon A.D. I was looking forward to this release but I was so disappointed. First off the good things; Vin Diesel, he isn't as bad as i expected him to be but his dialogue is awful. Now for the bad things; the story is summed up in 2 minutes of dialogue, the action sequences are dull and unoriginal; and the characters are undeveloped. The film should have been longer with more explanation of the story and action should have been top notch for a sci-fi. Babylon A.D. This has to be from a book... a book I haven't read. I'm all for making movies of books... HOWEVER, a good movie needs to be understood without having read the book. I have so many questions about who and where and why and how... completely HOW. Not good to have so many questions after the movie without the "WHOA" feeling like it may be ok not to understand because the movie was phenomenal... this one didn't have that feeling. Babylon A.D. This movie actually damaged my soul... I had such high hopes that Vin Diesel would redeem himself but that was a pipe dream. The story is set in a dystopian post apocalyptic society that is vaguely Blade Runner-esque, very cool, but towards the ending, wow that was genuinely terrible the plot disappears and this weird symbolism and melodrama just kinda melt all the cool things right away..... just wholly terrible.
