Night of the Living Dead (1968, Unrated)
There is such a sense of eeirness about this. It has to be my all time favorite old classic. My favorite scene is the first...and who could forget that music? What is my idea of romance? Well, this would be one of them. Dinner, candles, and this wonderful movie. It isn't just the acting and the story that makes it so good. It's also the non-existance of color. A lot of people just look down and black and white. But really, it gives a feeling you might not get otherwise, in color. For example. The scene where the house is giving sway to "those things", and everyone is losing it...Barbara is released from her catatonic state, and tries to help defend the door...she has a little strength, until she sees her brother Johnny. If this had been in color, the feeling wouldn't have been there...the shadows on his face. The absence of humanity--- |

Aftermath (1994, Unrated)
Aftermath was sick. A twisted romance. And truthful. This kind of thing really does happen more than people realize. The director wanted to capture the fears of what happens after death, but in some cases, what happens after, is much worse. |

This was very impressive. A fascinating culture, a beautiful protrayal, and an incredible score. I wanted to see this for so long, and now, I will always want to watch it. I have always loved to read about the Mayans, Incas, and Aztecs...the scenes of sacrifice I also have respect for. It may seem scary and brutal, indeed it is--but back then, and even now in some places, people really believed in rituals of appeasing their gods. Amazing film. |

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007, R)
Absolutely wonderful. Depp's look is stunning in this film. He looks so dark--his countenance is a reflection of his withering soul. This is by far one of his and Burton's greatest accomplishments. What a change the scarlet blood brought to the greyed atmosphere. I was somewhat shocked, but awed at the violence portrayed here. All the throat slashings, and the pie oven. What a twisted way to rid themselves of their nocturnal, devious practices. Lovett was selfish in what she did, and she paid a great price for it. A tragic depiction of what occurs when men distort the beauty of love. |

This was sad, and very strange...beautiful score. Imagine being fully conscious of your twin soul, in each life, and they being somewhat conscious of you...each time you try to save them, to be with them and love them...and you fail. Very interesting how the Mayan culture was so deeply involved with this. I would like to see more. |

This was excellent. It is very hard to come close to Lovecraft's terrirfying vision. Stuart Gordon has done a fantastic job. He should do all of Lovecraft's work. This film is based from the tale "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". For the longest time the face on the cover intrigued me...I thought it was absolutely horrific! In Lovecraft's work one thing is always true: there is no escape. No light at the end of the tunnel. No nothing...just you, and the gods, or some unimaginable creatures... |

I couldn't wait to see this, and I loved every minute of it. The 50s atmosphere fits in perfectly with the zombie society. Back then people left their doors unlocked. I loved Tammy, the "zombie concubine". I can't see how a collar would ever make a tame zombie though. "Bill, get your own funeral. Timmy and I are going zombie". |

I had wanted to see this for years. It was humorous and gory. West's character was played extremely well. This was not much like the actual story, but still it was good. While the film protrays humor, the tale is much, much darker. That one scene in the morgue made me think of Aftermath...I was wondering just how far they were going to go! |
